Class Etiquette

1. For new students, arrive 30 minutes before class starts, for registration and to get yourself settled.

2. Please make sure you are on time (10 minutes early is advisable). Students will not be allowed to enter the studio once class has started (the main entrance will be locked). Late arrivals are disruptive and may not be accommodated.

3. Keep very quiet in the practice room. Mobile phones should be turned off. This room is for releasing and distressing. For some, this is the only peace during the day. If you have questions please ask, the teacher can answer them during or after the class.

4. At any days before the class starts, it is very important to let the teacher know if you have any illness and injuries, not only during the first day of registration. This will help the teacher suggests modification to make your practice safer and enjoyable.

5. If you have high blood pressure, low blood pressure, glaucoma, or are menstruating, refrain from inversions such as headstand and shoulder stand. The teacher has other poses for you to practice.

6. It is best to use your own mat as it is more hygienic. A good quality of mat at an affordable price is available at our store. We do offer some mats to students for free, based on first come first serve basis.

7. Wear leggings, yoga pants, tights and a top that will allow the teacher to see how you are aligned. All clothing should be comfortable and allow the body to move and breath.

8. Yoga must be practice with an empty stomach. Students should allow a minimum of 30 minutes after a light meal (oats, fruits, milk, etc) or 3 hours after a normal meal before practicing.

9. After practicing, take an hour off before bathing and eating.

10. Please bring a small towel to wipe off your sweat.

Self- awareness leads to the respect for the space and people around you. Thank you for creating a sacred space for your practice and for respecting the spirit of yoga.
 

A Few Reassuring Notes

It is not only the flexible who practice yoga. Most people start with rather stiff and inflexible bodies, like some students and teachers. Flexibility comes gradually with practice. Staying focused, be patient and flow with breathing is more important than flexibility.

Class Content and Teacher Style

The style of yoga that Qi Yoga teaches is traditional Hatha Yoga. Traditional Hatha Yoga is  the combination of these 4 elements:

1. Chanting of ancient Sanskrit Text

2. Asanas (poses)

3. Pranayama (breathing techniques)

4. Meditation
